zebra fledglings

Post by haemma » Sun Jun 13, 2010 8:46 pm

Hi everyone!
I have 5 new baby zebra fledglings!! :D They are all out of the nest. Looks like 2 fawns and 3 normals. I have two questions...
1. At what point can I tell which are male and female? All look like hens so far.
2. Also they all seem to have a poopy looking area on their vent. Haven't seen any runny looking droppings so far. Is this normal for the fledglings?

AND, we also have 4/5 quaker fledglings so far, this is very unfamiliar territory, on a learning curve!
12 zebras, 6 gouldians, 3 RCCBs, 4 orange weavers, 1 crested gloster canary, 1 normal gloster canary, 4 societies, 4 orange cheeks, 1 cockatiel, 1 caique, 2 grumpy blue quakers, and one tiny little maltipoo named Bentley!

1 - watch to see which one tries to sing, that is a male.
2 - wait till they start to molt and get their adult colors. I look for the orange cheek patch to ID the male.
3 - whatever is left after the molt are females
