my javas please help!

Post by JezeKat » Fri Jun 18, 2010 10:42 pm

No matter what i do i cant get my two java's to get along...

i have tried changing the cage
pulling them apart for a few weeks
tried putting bird in taking them out
sitting birds in a cage next to them taking the birds back into the bed room
having and not having a nest
spraying lelo (the mean one) with water
giving him 'time outs'

but nothing nothing works. some times they will get along for weeks then out of no where Lelo will go after snow. for a week they where even sharing a nest but out of the blue Lelo got a bug in his butt and started going after snow...

it's been six months now!

i have had to put them on CL hoping to get them two new homes. but i LOVE my javas!

sure my zebras are a lot more friendly and they talk to you and all that great stuff but there is just something about Lelo and Snow... it breaks my heart but i dont know what to do.

i dont care if they never mate i dont care if they never really become friends as long as they dont fight!

but nothing i do works. i am am hoping that maybe one of you will have one last trick in your bag.

Poohbear! Really... [-X

Seriously: How big is their cage? Maybe it's too small? Do they have some fake plants or something where they can get out of each other's way? I think I would permanently separate them.... Get a big (long shaped) cage and put a divider in so they can see and hear each other and even sit close when they are friendly, but can't chase and even hurt each other.

Sorry, I can't think of anything better. I never had javas...
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Not easy with birds...sometimes you just have to swap partners for them. There's no accounting for behaviour sometimes.A cage with divider would be ideal...then you could slide the divider in whenever they got nasty with each other.

They may both be cock birds.....

Not easy when you guys keep them as pets.Breeders like myself still have favourites amongst our birds....but in this situation have no compunction in swapping birds round to achieve peace and stability.

I have never had Javas but I have had to swap out Gouldians to find a compatible pair. Not all of them get along as we wish them to. Good luck!!

i wish i could just swap one out as hard as it would be i would be able to keep one of them but the nearest breeder in 3.5 hours away and she only has one breeding set of java's and that's where i got my female.

i am sure she would let me just trade my female for one of the others but we dont have the money to go that far.

i have known almost from day one it would end like this but i always tried to keep hope alive..

I agree with Ursula...longer cage, doesn't have to be too high, but with a separator...I was just given 2 javas this weekend...one is blind and the other is mean to her...I will be doing what I described above...good luck!
