For those of you who have "mixed" species in with their Zebra Finches, can you tell me which have worked out the best for you?
I've read some articles about "mixed" species housed in one cage and even saw a chart showing which species are "passive", "pushy", "aggressive", etc..., but I want to hear some "personal" experiences some of you may have/had. In other words, what has worked best for you.
Thanks!

Re: Mixed specied with Zebras
I have had Javas, Zebras, and Societies in the same society without anything but the occasional squabble at the food dish.

I have zebras with shaftails. There may be a bit of squabbling once in a while, but my gouldians squabble sometimes too.

Re: Mixed specied with Zebras
My societies don't mix w zebras. They are too passive for the zebras.
I had a couple societies with their tails chewed up by the zebras.
The societies won't fight back when the zebras get pushy/aggressive to them.
Having said that, it all depends on the personality of the zebra. I have a couple zebras that are real mellow and would mix w the societies. But from what I have seen, "in general" the zebras are indeed pushy/aggressive.
I had one incident where a juv zebra took over the society nest right after I replaced the fake eggs with a couple real eggs, and he did not let the societies near the nest. Not a good situation as I needed the societies to foster the eggs. Needless to say, this zebra was removed from the societies cage.
