How do you know how old a zebra finch is?

Does anyone know how to tell how old a zebra finch is?

Once they've coloured up into their adult colours, I don't think there's any sure way; although you can look at their feet & legs to see if they are rough and scaly (older) or smoother (younger) in appearance. That's about all I know for just about any finch in addition to just being normally active with clear eyes, etc...

Hope the breeder puts the year the bird hatched on their leg bands like I do!

"Most" breeders don't band their birds... pity!
