I have been thinking WAY too hard about adding birds to my flight.
or adding flights to my house...
I really wouldn't be interested in breeding either Gouldians or Cordon Bleus. Would there be any issue in having 2 females or 2 males of either species instead? Would they need a partner from their species?
OK. My sister saw an ad in the paper for Cordon's. and I saw some beautiful ones at the bird fair....
Currently I have 6 societies and 2 waxbills. I would like to get a couple of Shaftails and maybe breed them. but the others.....
I am setting up a cage for my gold breasted waxbills to let them breed if they should be inclined so they will be out of the flight. ROOM for Shaftails.. or maybe .. ..
Opinions anyone?

Yes, you can have 2 of the same sex of those species and they will be fine. I have customers who want Gouldians, but do not want to deal with any breeding. So I always recommend they get two males - the males are more colorful and they sing too.

CB males are supposed to fight, but I don't really know if they would fight without the females present. I have two CB pairs, and they definitely cannot be in the same cage--it is instant fighting between the males. However, I have kept one CB pair with Gouldians with no problems, and the other CB pair with a pair of Strawberries with no problems.

I mix my cbs with all of my other finches, but never put two males together - I've heard too many horror stories. Some may not have had problems, but I believe that would be the exception rather than the rule. Male gouldians, on the other hand, get along great - I keep all of my "bachelors" together.
