I am looking for a cage for 13 finches

Post by AiSell » Mon Jan 21, 2008 7:59 am

Hello! I have four finches and I am going to have 9 more. A friend of mine is going to give them to me because he is leaving the city and there is no one who can leave them to. The cage that I have is enough for my 4 babies but considering the coming 9 they are going to be 13 totally. So I plan to buy a new cage, bigger than what I have, to provide enough room for all birds. I am double minded between these two cages and I would like to give me an advice. Which one do you think is gonna be more comfortable and providing more space for executing flights for my babies? http://www.birdscomfort.com/flight_bird_cage.html or http://www.birdscomfort.com/parrot_aviary_cage.html
Thank you in advance!

Hi AiSell....I just got that exact model cage (the HQ) for my 4 finches.....I love it and lots of people here have that model too....many have the double model. I would have liked the double model too but just don't have room for it right now.

I don't know about 13 finches in that size cage though...might be a little too small....It was suggested to me not to put more than about 6 to 8 finches in the size cage I have (the HQ cage).

Others here will give you more advice too....good luck with your choice! :D

I have both those cages, and in my opinion, the single is way too small for 13 finches. If you have the room, the double flight is a great cage, but it does take up a lot of space. Even putting all 9 new ones in the single flight would be a lot--two singles would work if you don't have the space for the double. Before you order a cage from that site, be sure and get a firm shipping quote. Their prices are lots below others, because they don't include shipping. When I got a shipping quote, it actually made them a little more expensive. If you are not too far from them, it could save you some money. I bought my cages from this site, which includes shipping: www.qualitydiscountcages.com.

BTW, the number of finches you can keep in a certain size cage depends on the species and whether they are all the same sex. You can keep more Societies together than Zebras, because they are more easygoing. What kind and sex are your finches?

I have my six in the 16421 (double flight cage) and it is nice and roomy. I saw it on the site that you posted. With shipping, I've never seen it for under $230, but it is well worth the price when you compare it to other cages of that size. I am probably going to buy another one to put my zebras in. They are in a cheap finch flight cage that is about half that size right now.

I have the blue one, btw, and it is REALLY nice! I was amazed at the quality, given the relatively inexpensive price. About the only way I could get a cheaper one is to buy the wire and c-clamps and make one myself, and that wouldn't include the nice rolling stand and multiple doors!

Abba Seed also carries some really cool flight cages. I was drooling over an 83" long one that mounts to the wall and can be converted into twelve individual breeding cages. Their website is not the greatest, so it is best to order their catalogue, which has more items listed.

I have the single HQ and can't speak highly enough about it. Very good quality. I have 5 finches in mine.
They all seem comfortable, with enough room.

With eleven finches, I would go with the double. Or two singles.

Here is where I purchased mine.
http://www.qualitydiscountcages.com/products.asp?cat=19

At the time I purchased mine, there was only a dollar difference in price between the two companies, with delivery. One company offers free shipping, the other is cheaper price for cage, then shipping on top of that.

Either company I believe you would be happy with.

I love this cage!
As do my birds, which is most important to me.

I agree.. the single is not big enough for that many finches. I have those cages too, and I keep 4 in that first flight. I have the double in that too, and I keep about ten in it but they are all passive species:
