Getting ready for the breeding season and having issues....

Post by hilljack13 » Mon Feb 11, 2008 8:58 pm

OK, this is going to be LONG...

First I'll go into how my setup was before this weekend..
Large cage 30x18x36 had my 3 male zeb's...smaller cage had my two females. Everybody gets along just fine except my youngest male who chases the other two once in awhile...My males are all related as 1st 2nd and 3rd generation. My females are not related. My large cage was against the window in the room and the smaller cage for the females was against the wall and further from the window. So what did I do?

I have another large cage same size and everything. I finally went to get a table to put it on. I got a 72" table to put both cages on. I did the entire move and had both cages on the table about 6" apart and all against the wall away from the window (small room). The sun still comes in though.

Soooo....as soon as I get the cages moved and set up the youngest male becomes totally agressive. The two females made territory on the bottom and top of the cage and chase each other now when the other invades. Although that changed a day later when one female is the aggressor of the entire cage..Also it is worth noting that both females will only hang out at the side of the cage against the males cage. Like they are just "asking for it"...

OK...First thing I did was get the small cage and put the most aggressive male (avatar) in it. It's not on the other side of the room away from the others. He didn't like that and tries to fly over to the others. SO then the other two males go at it. One being the original male and the other his son. The dad is more aggressive now.

Then I moved the original mom (aggressive female) with the orignal dad and put the son with my other female. My "other" female is my CFW-BC. I have pictures posted in the gallery of all of them. Anyway...the CFW female didn't want any of that and literally beat up the male. She wants to go to the other cage with the other male...

Sooo...I moved her with the other pair. And put the original female with her son..She too kick his a**. Not sure what happened because the CFW female and the son are the parents to the very aggressive male that is now on the other side of the room. They used to like each other.

Ok so since mom is abusive I took the son out and put him with the other agressive male. No issues yet...but the aggressive male likes to sing to the other male?? So now my setup looks like this...Original male with CFW female in large cage. Original mom in large cage alone and the other two males in small cage on the other side of the room. I was hoping to get the two originals to mate again and the the CFW to breed with the son again. Not sure how to go about this b/c now I have 3 cages to tend to instead of the two larger cages.

I'm gonna need some advice on what to do. I thought about putting a solid color divider between the cages but then one cage wouldn't get as much sun as the other (I think).

Any help (short or long, LOL) would be appreciated.

The only other change I have made is now the original parents are together and they love each other, doing lots of singing, dancing, and beak chattering. The other two males are just fine together in the small cage, now the CFW female is all alone. I'm thinking of adding the other male she was with before and see if they will calm down.

Sounds like you have had a bird of a day.... :o

how about putting them back to the way they were and get a full spectrum light inside of direct sun light for the cage that is not infront of a window?
