What species to keep my "widowed" male gouldian co

Post by TexasHeather » Sat Apr 26, 2008 1:40 pm

We have one pair of gouldians, only the female died a few days ago; we think it was egg binding. :(

Went out today to buy a replacement female, but couldn't find one anywhere (we're in Brazil, not the US).

Would it be better to get another male gouldian to hang out with him, or get a male/female pair of some other species, or just leave him solo for a while?

If you think a male/female pair of a different species, what species is good to mix with a lone male gouldian??

And, if we add a male/female pair, should we take out the nest box? Or will it be okay?

Thanks!

thanks, PoohBear - we were able to find a female yellow-bodied/pastel-green Gouldian for him. We can find Society's here, but really wanted something prettier & with a nicer song.

They seem to be getting along well so far.

Thanks for the help!

As long as the male is in the cage first a girl can be added safely, Congrads on the new bird. I lOVE the yellows
