Sally wrote:$45 for two of them is very cheap. At the last mart, they were selling from $55 to $75 each for normals. I sold mine for $65 each. Blues and silvers sell for upwards of $200 each.
You can try offering your boys different foods (veggies, etc.), but don't worry if they don't seem interested. Gouldians are notorious picky eaters, so don't obssess about it. They do have a need for more iodine in their diet than most species, so you can offer them some powdered kelp or put liquid iodine in their water--helps to keep them from balding.
I bought them for 45 each, I quess I didn't make that clear..

where would I get liquid iodine? I made some homemade birdie bread with veggies, they have not touched that yet, they sure are cute little guys..

Google 'seaweed extract' to find a supplier in your country...You will find it is advertised for the cure to everything on the planet, including the common cold.
I have a supplier in the Scottish Islands who sells it as a suppliment for farm animals and horticulture. Not expensive, and the most direct method of adding iodine to the birds water.Powdered kelp is fine but you can't guarantee all the birds are taking it.At least in the water they all do.
I don't think there is a country with a coastline who doesn't harvest seaweed to be used for some purpose.
