Can Finches in general forget how to build a nest?

Can Finches in general forget how to build a nest?

I was just curious because I have always had to make the nest for my Zebs. The male won't build.

Zebras: Celeste&Piper&Isabelle +2 babies!!

Sometimes they just don't bother lol. I had it happening with java sparrows!
Bird species bred up till now : Zebras, Bengalese, Javas, Diamond doves, Canaries.

It varies on an individual level but it's a bit strange if he's built a nest before. In general it's common for heavily domesticated breeds such as zebs to lose some of their natural abilities. I'd just give him a box or nest with material in it and let him add the finishing touches.
