How do you find local breeders?

Post by cntrymeadow » Tue Dec 02, 2008 10:41 pm

Im a newbie here but so far I am in total love with our finches!

We have two breeding zebra adults with 5 almost weaned babies.
We have two society finches which are sitting on 7 eggs although with the time that has gone by Im thinking the eggs are not fertile.

The two above pairs are in their own cages and the baby zebs will be moved to their own cage when they are ready.

Ive been reading all about the different finches and even went to the local canary/finch show (which I was a little dissappointed in).

Im thinking I would really like to try having different finches:
owl
strawberry
java

all of course in their own cages.

Ive searched the internet trying to find local people who may have breeding pairs of finches but so far Im not coming up with very much.

I live in the Seattle, Wa area.

How do you find people with finches for sale/or giveway?
Ive tried the local pet rescue and craigslist but again, not very forthcoming with finches.

Yes thanks!
I know I have seen people on here who are from my area...and was hoping they would see this post and help!

I look on craigslist every day but of the finches most of them are zebs.
Usually dont find many of the other varieties which makes me think perhaps there are not that many breeders here?

I dont know if people ship birds but that is not an option I would even consider.

a fast way is to goto their profile and send a personal message that will hit their e-mail. I wish I could be of more help, but I'm in South Carolina.

I haven't had any birds shiped but they do that all the time most large breeders ship adds a lot to the cost of the finch though

why not either visit or phone a few vetinarians in your area they should be able to help
Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.

Here are a few places you could try....Hoobly and KIJIJI are popular with breeders cause they can't get flagged off like they do on CL. Just go to your state and look under the Pets/Birds listing. Good Luck! :D

Don't forget to try going to a bird show. Most of the people are from your area or close to it. Plus the prices are usually cheaper and you can get a much bigger selection.
