Coming up with the names isn't the part I would find difficult. I could come up with names for my little bunch. It's keeping them all straight as to who's who, when we're talking about 120 birds that boggles my mind.
And yes, you are crazy.

Mine all have names....mainly because I also am a nut and they are part of my family.
I have:
Tansy the green parakeet;
Buttercup the yellow parakeet;
William and Marjorie the zebra finches;
Julian the chestnut-sided white zebra finch;
Nutmeg the Spice finch;
Humphrey the Society finch (after Humphrey Bogart)

;
Pippin the zebra finch (son of William and Marjorie).
The only difficulty I will have is that Pippin is getting mature and I'm looking for ways - other than behavior - to tell him apart from William!

You could stick a band on his leg to tell him apart... it isn't hard to do

Ah...I didn't think of a band! I'm new to finchie ownership and still have a bit of a problem holding them for nails and such. I'm too tentative because I think I'm squishing them

. They are such squirmers!

Yeah... me too... I always have my boyfriend hold them while I put the band on... it's easier that way, I can't seem to get the band on with just myself doing it!

It gets easier! Too funny that you have a Nutmeg the spice! My first pair are Nutmeg and Ginger, and their kids are Cinnamon and Mace. Now, how DID I come up with those names?!

That's funny Hilary....you need a Cardamom and a Saffron.

My Nutmeg looks like a nutmeg. They are very pretty birds. He doesn't say much.
For the Society I tried to come up with movie stars from the past, which is why I picked Humphrey. He is a great singer and a character.

At first I did not name my two males. Thougth they were just to smallt o carry the weight of a name. Then after I lost one boy and gained two girls I decided to give them LOTR names but not the full names because after all little finchies are too small for such big names.
So the Male became Boz-short for Boramir The two girls became Wyn and Wen- short for Eowyn and Arwen and now I have a new one

Finch math

and he turned out to ba a she once I studdied up on finch markings

anyway I have to figgure out another LOTR girl name to shorten.
Thinking of Rose for Rosie the Hobbit, but she is too pluky to be a rose, So that leaves me the elves Galadriel, Nimrodel, Luthien etc to work with.

I was going to name my newest finch girl "Galadriel" but she is so petite and cute that I chose an "herby" name for her and now she is "Rosemary May".
I agree it is hard to put such lofty Tolkien names onto these little birds!

I just named the latest babies in my society cage. I try to use name that wll be unisex when I don't know which sex they are. My latest are Weeble. Diesel, & Moser. I know, they don't seem to make sense but they just came to me while looking at them!

I love picking names to fit my birds, but I haven't had the mishap of loseing any yet
My orange cheek waxbill is Tango because his little tail flits back and forth. Snow is my white society. Skittles is a gouldian. Piper (he's my singer who barely stops) and Ariel are my star finches. I'm pondering names for my new owls.

Although as a rule...I put in tons of enjoyable time picking out names...with the finches they're more descriptors than planned out names...
Stawberry = Strawberry
Black-rumped = Pinky
Zebra = Zebra
Cordon Bleu = Pegleg (he is missing one foot - bought him like that)
Society = Sosie
Reg. Java = Java
White Java = Jillie
B&W Mannikin = was Manni, until the kids renamed him Emo
Spice Finch = Lumpy...came with the name...er, because he has/had lumps...

A bird in the hand...requires some serious washing up...
