Has anyone ordered from mybirdcage.com?

Post by star » Sun Oct 11, 2009 10:15 am

I want to order from them but I am hesitant until I hear that someone else has ordered from them before with no problems. Anyone?

Sorry you haven't gotten any responses from your post, star. It could be that some who aren't on here so much any more have ordered, but that doesn't help you now. I have only ordered from qualitydiscountcages.com and birdandcage.com, but neither of them have the quad cage you are interested in. Another good HQ cage is the single flight, and the double flight is just like two of the singles joined together. They are actually made more for finches than the quad. I think the quad works best for parrotlets or that size bird, but will work for finches with some adjustments.

I agree with Sally, I was at a show yesterday and saw a quad cage. The quad would work best with parrotlets or lovebirds, parrakeets. The bars were thick and it looked like your would not be able to see the finches as well.

They do make a double stack cage (It looked like both the top and bottom cage had to be about 24" high each) with thinner bars that I saw in the showroom and it would be great for finches. The bottom cage does sit a little low to the floor compared to the HQ13221 model. It was like this one but without the seed guards. I like the seedguards and the base on this one:

it was more like this without the platform and ladder inside

I've ordered cages from birdcages4less before.

When I typed in HQ Cages and went to there site this is what it read:

www. hq bird cages .com is closed. You can visit our new online store www. My Bird Cage .com .

I looks like it is a new site and name for HQ Cages.

Thank you both so much for trying to help. Is the bar thickness the only reason you would not suggest it for finches or are there other things I am overlooking? I wanted to take out the dividers and make 40 inch long cages. All of the other cages I have seen do not have the correct dimensions or are way too expensive. What kind of adjustments are you talking about with the quad cage?

star, I have the four-cage-high and three-cage-high version of this cage. I do love them, but I bought them used, so I felt like they were worth it. These cages will work for you, depending on what kind of finch and what you want to do with them. I bought the cages strictly as breeding cages, and I had to do some reworking with them. I will be gone a lot tomorrow, but I will try to get some photos tomorrow evening to show you what I had to do.

The bar spacing is 1/2", but if you take out the divider, as I have, it leaves a 5/8" gap all the way down the middle. I filled this in by cutting pieces of quarter round, painting them, and securing them with mini bungee cords or zip ties.

Then, I don't use the grates in cages, so when you take out the grate, you have a huge gap which would allow escapees. I had plexiglass cut so I had strips to put across each opening where the tray goes, and I hold them in place with velcro strips. This was a fairly pricey way to do it, and I should have just cut and painted pieces of wood to use instead.

You will see what I mean when I post the photos. For me, since I got the cages used, I didn't mind doing some adjustments on them to make them work for me. When paying full price, you may not feel like you want to then have to do a lot of adjusting.

What do you want the cages for? The HQ double flight is a wonderful cage, about 64x21x35 (cage part), and is available at birdandcage.com for $299.95 w/free shipping. I have bought from them before and was very satisfied. You can use it as one really nice flight over 5 feet long, or you can put in the divider and use it as two separate cages. The HQ single flight is just a half/size version of the double--32x21x35.

It is really hard to find the perfect cage for finches. Manufacturers seem to have forgotten about us when designing cages! Somebody makes a nice flight cage similar to the HQ single flight, but with 3/8" bar spacings, but darned if I can remember where I saw it. Take your time, and make sure the cage you order is one that will work for your situation.

star, I'm going to start a new thread under Housing, since that is really where my post belongs. It will have some photos of my setup using the same cage you are interested in, except mine is a four-stack, instead of a two-stack. This will show you some of the adjustments you may have to make.
