Repetitive Questions

Post by CandoAviary » Fri Nov 13, 2009 11:32 am

I can't help but noticed that new members come on here with good question, yet sometimes they don't get many responses. Probably because we get tired of repeating ourselves...me included.

So for new members seeking more in depth answers try going to the bar above to the search button. Click and then type in words of your interst, such as... ACV (apple cider vinegar) or ASM (air sac mites) or Gouldian genetics, etc.
It will search and bring up past posts on these subjects and you may get more detailed information. Hope this helps all to find answers. I search past post all the time and have found more detailed answers from very experienced finch keepers.... seems when people give fresh/new answers/information it is a little more thorough and enlightening. Happy learning :D

Candace, I am so glad you brought this up. I have noticed a lot of repetitive questions lately. In no way would I want to discourage anyone asking questions, that is one of the most important functions of the forum. But, you are correct that sometimes it is easier to ignore a question than answer it yet again. The Search function is wonderful, and it seems to be one of the most under-utilized sections of the forum. I have used it many times to find answers I am wanting--there is usually so much info available, I learn new things all the time.

The other area that is often overlooked is the Finch Information Center itself! Often when I am answering a question, I go back to the FIC to double-check what I am saying (senior memory, you know  ). I am pleased to notice that on many breeders' websites, they link or recommend the FIC as a place to find lots of answers.

So newbies (and oldies, including myself), ask away, but don't forget the FIC and the search function--you can often get your answers faster that way, too!

Sally,
Excellent point about the FIC (finch information center) as this is how I came to find this forum. I was devouring the information of the hosting site. Hillary, Crystal, Liz and Sally =D> =D> =D> =D>

As an illiterate computer jargon person.. It took me a while to figure out what FIC meant and APV and ASM and JMHO.... #-o
So I am thinking there must be other confused people like me out there :? There's hope and help from these moderators listed above.
Again =D> =D> =D> =D>

Just an example of how wonderful the Search function is...Donna posted that she has three newly-hatched Forbes babies. I know she hasn't had the Forbes for very long, so I put 'Forbes' for the search keyword, and 'dfcauley' for the search author, and in no time, I found that Donna got those Forbes on September 19. Here it is November 13, and she already has babies hatching out--record time--fabulous!!

I wear that search button out... doing exactly what you did. Going back and checking dates...statements...recommendations..etc.
I can many times remember who said it but not when they said it. :D

I agree the search button is great! You guys don't even know half of my questions because I usually find the answers in previous posts. It's also great for searching about information on a certain species because you will have entire threads devoted to people discussing their newly acquired finch, not to mention great pics of the bird as well. This forum has taught me SO much, it's been priceless to me!

slightly off topic, while your guiding new members toward the search button why not also put a sticky at the top of the introductions section which contains commonly used abbreviations and what they mean.
the list could be added to at anytime by admin/mods
Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.
