Difference in zebra tear marks

Post by Ameza » Thu May 20, 2010 11:03 am

I have just been wondering about this since my pair has quite different tear marks. Is there any reason for this or do the zebra finches just generally have different marks?

What I am talking about is like my female has a straight down tear mark:

While the male has a mark that turns away from the beak:

I noticed my two chicks from them each got different one, one the kind of mark his father has and the other like his mother.

I have also noticed birds with marks that turn towards the beak more.

So any reason for this or is it just random?

Salam

it is supposed that all the zebra finches have the same tear mark.
which is just like ur female's tear mark.

ur male have a different tear mark becoz he is split for black cheek. and this caused the tear mark to be away from the beak, toward the cheek.

some mutations lead to the absence of the tear mark like : white, penguin, black breast and orange breast.

in the black face there is a tear mark but due to the black color between the beak and the cheek u cant see it :).

Thank you for your answer.

But what about this one female that Vargur just got, she is split for BC but her tear mark streaches towards her beak.

the bottom of the tear mark is going toward the beak but from the top to the middle it is going inside toward the cheek as u can see.
