Non-Toxic Plant finches will not tear to shreds?

Thanks. Now I know not to get a Boston fern. I have a few plants in there now. While the birds peck at each from time to time, the bamboo is the only one that they really go at. I can't say that they're using it for nesting though. They just pluck the leaves and let them drop.

The stars and zebras aren't touching anything. It's the societies and goldfinches that seem to love tearing it up.

For those who are interested, I think it's safe to add the Corkscrew Rush plant to the "Safe Plants" list. Having found that it is safe for cats, and not being able to find any reference to its being toxic to anything, I added one to my flight yesterday. Since then I have seen a couple of my birds eating at it; with no apparent ill effect.

+1 on the Boston fern, they tore mine to shreds in no time. I have a lot of orchids, which are safe, but I don't want them to eat those! Maybe I'll try one for a short time and see what happens. Silly birds.
Some birds are not meant to be caged, that's all. Their feathers are too bright, their songs too sweet and wild.
