You have done a wonderful thing! The larger pet stores around here that sell birds are actually pretty quick to move a bird that is picked on to a separate cage or to the back. One chain in particular sends at least some of their staff 'somewhere' to get educated on proper animal care - including birds and LBJ's - little brown jobs - hamsters, guinea pigs etc. I have been quite impressed with their knowledge. Unfortunately, the same chain allows a lot of the animals to be handled by 'customers'...I say 'customers' because it seems to also be a family weekend event to go play with them even when there is no intent to purchase. I feel sorry for the animals. I also know of a few cases where animals have been injured beyond what I am sure the store will pay for vet care. I have been thinking of talking to our local SPCA or city council about this practice.
