Sure Donna, but then I'd have to take my sunglasses off. 8) Would it suffice to say I'm younger than some but older than a few others on here? :D

You all talk about carrying your years well but according to this it appears I'm not!!

I was very lucky as a youngster growing up on a farm and always had a love for animals, my grandfather is a widely respected racing pigeon keeper and I think he got me involved initially. He gave me 4 Zebra finches and my father built a HUGE aviary for them. 4 zebras turned into 20 and then 40 in no time (they are Zebs after all). Didn't really know anything about in breeding back then but still I believe that's where my love for this originated.

Spending time studding and building my career proved to be that kick-starter for taking up aviculture again, we purchased a home on a large property with an indoor garden and I thought to myself, this would make a great aviary. The rest is history, as they say.

At 28 I got serious with birds and joined the district club.I felt a bit uncomfortable going by myself with most members double my age plus.10 years later at 38 there are are couple my age and i finally fit in, plus unfortunately some have expired. But the club has record numbers and gets 30 to 40 a meeting good compared to other organisations.Parents bring there kids as youngsters but they fade out when teenagers, probably a bit boring with a group of oldies.

After retiring at 62 about a year later I got into birds quite by accident, was at a local nursery looking at plants and they had two aviary's one with love birds one with Finch's and the best one was a green wing named pakita who just wanted someone to talk to him, definitely has a personality still there after 4 years take him snacks when I am down that way, people think I am crazy when i get inside the gate I start calling his name and he answers me and laughs saying his name as loud as he can
After our first visit we got home and decided to build a aviary because it would complement the garden well after I got it built the rest is history I found myself sitting for hours watching those zebs, now I have two aviary's in garden and the porch wall to wall cages. And love every minute
of it [except cleaning the cages]
