Sorry to hear about your kitty, Bill. As with most pet owners, our 'kids' always come first. Also sorry to hear about your own troubles--glad you are on the mend.

I have only ever had stitches from having my wisdom teeth out and I know how much that sucked...Yeah, we used an old soccer sock, you know the ones used to cover your shin guards? The only thing I can think of is with a female, you may have a problem with her peeing on the back of the sock if you put her back legs into it, maybe not if you cut it right though, never tried it that way myself. Post a pic if she will keep it on, my cat looked hilarious stuff in her little sock sweater, and while she didnt appreciate it, it was safer for her to be in that than with the e-collar on, she freaked out something horrible with that thing on :(

When my cat had surgery way back when, the ecollar they gave me at the vet didn't last more than a couple hours. I bought one at petsmart with a padded neck line and he kept that one on, I don't know what the difference was except it was clear transparent so he didn't freak out as bad. I still took it off him when I could directly supervise so he could have a break from it, though.

Thanks again for all the replies.. Lilly is doing really good..

I am doing some research on the subject.. E-collar alternatives and think I have something.. I'll let yall know if it works..
