No they don't. They are not as deep as they appear to be.

I never thought about keeping European birds...

Can I mix them with what we call "foreign" birds? do they eat similar food?

I have been contemplating getting a pair of European Goldfinches, but thought they were too assertive to be in with the passive finches. Anyone know for sure or does it depend on the size of the aviary?

Very pretty birds. They seem all to be a little puffed and fluffed up. Is it chilly there?

It's about 9C (48F) at night and about 20C (68F) during the day.

Do you reckon it's too cold?

I try to keep my grasskeet and gouldians at a minumum of 60%.... but that is because they are not use to any less....usually the temp here runs on average in the inside aviaries runs 80%
But I am sure that they could acclimate to cooler.... I just wouldn't with mine. I cover the outdoors aviaries with plastic in the winter and install a heater. I have only had Zebra Finches and canaries and weavers left out in this. The lowest it got was 55%, they all did fine so I may try other species this year. I know a breeder in North Carolina Mountains (cold there in the winter) that lets his grasskeets go out all year long, of course they can come indoors at free will if it is too cold. They do fabulous... so I guess it is what the bird gets adjusted to. But I think if we want to keep them comfortably then we should try and duplicate their natural home tempertures.
