I've had my male Java finch for about I guess a month now??? Anyways he is AWESOME but I suspect very lonely.

I have been looking up and down for another with NO luck. My regular pet store even tried ordering one for me but no luck (I live way out of nowhere) anyways today I called a pet store about a half hour away and they have ONE java finch!!!!!

I want to go pick it up. But here is my dilema.....if it's a female is there any way to make them NOT breed? I don't want breeding going on....Is there ANY way I can prevent them from it?

If there it is NOT a female, I am pretty much giving up and will purchase him company in the form of a male from another species. Suggestions?

I'm sure if you don't provide them with nesting opportunities they won't breed. Java's aren't like societies and zebra finches which will breed in the food or on the ground. I would purchase another Java since they are bigger finches and a smaller finch may be intimidated by it.

I personally have never owned Javas, so I'm just speaking from what I've read.

Good luck though, and I definitely think you should get your finch some type of friend.

as everyone on here knows i have kept javas for quite some time,they do like company of thier own kind smaller finches put in with them in a confined space may suffer from bullying .and the javas beak is very lethal if you dont put a nest in the likelyhood of them breeding is really remote as they dont like cage breeding that much preferring to breed in an open space as they are more prone to colony breeding as this is thier preffered method of breeding a cage has to be a certain size and the nest box also has to be a particular size also as they are shy breeders despite being a very robust bird same sexes willl not fight in a cage as long as there is not another bird introduced ..say a female with 2 males will iduce immediate carnage ....as long as you dont put a nest in you will be fine and of course 2 females will live harmoniously for a long time..if you get a male and female they ar monogamous and will stay with each other for a long time
