Always On The Move

Post by FeatherHarp » Wed Nov 28, 2007 1:47 pm

I am sitting here watching my 2 Zebras and they never seem to stop flying and hopping around.

I assume this is normal for them but now I am curious as to whether all finches are like this or do some breeds just fly around more than others? :?:

Z end :D

My zebras go non-stop as well. They are still when they are sleeping... or, lately, if they are pooped out from bickering. :?

I was just playing the Owl Finch song I found in a post here and boy did that stop the Z's dead in their tracks...lol!

In fact my Lovebirds and Parakeets got quiet too...I guess they didn't know what to think! It is so funny when all the birds are making lots of noise and then suddenly they all stop...and there is a moment of profound silence (for about 1 second) and then it's back to the noise again...

That's pretty funny. I've downloaded finch songs and played them, too. They get really quiet and listen for a while. I bet it's more noticeable when you have something that sounds louder than a little squeak toy.

I have several different varieties and they are all pretty active. Zebras can definitely be the loudest though and they make sure that everyone knows that they are there.

My male is a noise box and I call him Figit because he is never still but my female is really mellow I think that is because she was raised by my societies and not a zebra pair. wait til they start mating and OMG the noise he makes and the dance he does is amazing and fun to watch

Finches in general are pretty flighty and active. My bird club was touring a member's aviary (mostly large hookbills), and I was thinking 'How can they stand the noise?' About that time, we passed some breeding cages with finches flying back and forth, and another member commented that she couldn't stand that constant movement, that's why she has parrots!! So I guess there is something for everyone in the bird world.

I do notice a difference between species, though. My bronze wings sent my gouldians into a molt - the constant movement stressed my poor boys out. The gouldians, on the other hand, are very quiet, as are my white headed nuns.

Yeah I noticed that Gouldians are very calm, they don't freak out when I move around the room the way my pintails, silverbills, and zebras do and when they sing it's easy on the ears.

I have a pair of zebras that had five eggs that they sat on all the time... then, all the sudden, they buried* them with more nesting material, while one was in the middle of hatching. Anyway, I put them in my society nest, and my societies are raising them! So hopefully these zebras will also be more chilled out!
