Prettiest sounding song bird

I would like to buy two songbirds. I have had cockatiels but would like advise on the most vocal, prettiest sounding song bird. Should I buy in pairs??

If you want consistent, pretty sound, I guess a canary would be the way to go. With many of the finch species, only the males sing, and some of their songs are fairly quiet. I have a male Green Singing finch, which is related to the canary, which is the most fabulous singer, he is actually loud and can be heard outside in the yard with all the windows closed. I have another pair of Green Singing finches, and I have never heard a song from that male at all. Strawberry males have a beautiful song. Cordon Bleus have a really nice song. But if you are really wanting beautiful song, the canary will produce for you.

If it's the song you're looking for...get two males. A finch must have a friend. The females traditionally do not sing but chirp. If you are not looking for a loud song and an easy to care for finch...I vote society finches. Be forewarned...it is difficult to tell the difference btwn males and females. A lot of times pet stores will not sex them. Just sit and watch them for a couple of mins and the males will sing. I adore my societies because they are not a loud bird, but extremely pleasant to listen to.

I have to agree and say that my Society male sings the best and prettiest song of all my finches.

I vote for male star finch, who has a nice lengthy song. The female chirps more than a little bit. Byt the way, I love finches precisely because they do not squawk and are not too loud. I have two pairs in my main living space and their song is not intrusive, but in the early mornings, they sing wonderfully. I also notice that my star finches love football -- they sing up a storm listening to me yell at the Redskins.

This is quite interesting - when I started my search I wanted a singing finch, but kept reading that they didn't have great song, and many of them had annoying loud peeps.

So it is really nice to read that there are several with nice song, and that don't have annoying squawks!

I also keep my finches in my living room and I think my societies have the nicest sound to them. Neither they or my zebras ever really get loud to the point I can't stand. They all greet the morning and each other very loudly as soon as it gets light outside, and if their lights aren't on before that they do it again when the lights switch on. They like rock music and when we play Rock Band or Guitar Hero they make tons of noise with the music.

My canary and finches love Chopin piano music

...or Don Giovanni from Mozart. The canary especially likes Bach piano music. He also loves the vacuum cleaner so maybe I can't rely on him for taste.....

I find the male Strawberry finch to have a lovely tropical sounding song - but he will be the one to start off the singing with his "PEEEEEE! PEEEEE-OOOOOO!" at five a.m.

My canary has a lovely song and I like the Society songs too - they are so cute when they sing....doing their little dance....

I only have female Stars and I like their peep, and my Gouldians have lovely twitters and musical peeps.

Of course, get the Zebs and their many versions of their Zeb song going and it sounds, as my friends say, like a jungle in the house!

Now I am wanting some strawberry finches...but they are pretty darn scarce around here.

But it sounds like just having a nice variety makes for a nice blended chorus.

My Zebras need their clock reset as they will start calling anywhere around 3:30am to 5am

Maybe I need to put a sleeping mask on them...lol

My little strawberry male, Shakti, came in with a group I adopted from a bird rescue last year. I was very lucky to get him. I find that he is a funny, intelligent little bird. He likes to zoom past me sometimes when I am cleaning the cage and he flies around the house for awhile and sits up on my antique antlers or within the plants. Then he will allow me to scoop him up and put him back in the cage.

I just love that little bird!

Ohh I wish I could let my babies out when I'm cleaning the cage. Considering the size of our apt there are a lot of places for them to fall between. When we get more space in a few months we're going to get a bigger cage and let them out.

Back on the subject....5am??? I would have a pillow over my head hahah. What a sweet way to wake up.

My oldest Java has the most beautiful song, he sings about every 30 mins (a long warble with high and low pitches and ends in like something from American Idol) , the younger ones are still learning but they are getting there (all males I think). The older male will only sing when I am with him though
