Where can I buy finches?

Hi everyone,

Ok I feel ready to expand my bird population and am wanting some very colorful finches. I prefer to buy thru a reputable breeder and have them air shipped but can't find one. Ideas!!!! I bought the original 12 finches from petco in ID Fall, ID. and to date all are healthy and happy (except I did give a couple males who were suppose to be females to the local pet store)...

I am wanting couples or male pairs if they are happy that way, but understand that some do better as male/female pairing. I am not particularly interested in breeding albeit my spice finches are...lol

I am wanting about a dozen more and the more color the better but must be non aggressive type per list on the finch site. My enclosure could easily house 30+ birds and currently have 9.

Missoula MT is the closest airport to me.

so please tell me what you have forsale. I would gladly buy thru the forum if you accept paypal or CC. Weather is faverable imo for shipping and reading about it, seems like they do well if prepared for the trip.

Thanks for your help,

Rita

I would think Gouldians would do well in your aviary, providing lots of color. You can get only males, which have the most color anyway, and they will do fine. Cordon Bleus are beautiful, but you can't have two males in the same enclosure (though the size of yours might work). Several male Stars usually get along fine.

You can post your wants on these two sites, and see what kind of response you get. There are lots of breeders on the West Coast. Birds Express is in Los Angeles, they are an importer. I've never ordered from them, but I've heard of people who have had no problems.

Thanks Sally, but I can't get either link to open up. Would you happen to have any others?

forgot to ask, why only one cordon blue male? I thought they were non agressive types and could mingle with the rest of the non's?

thanks!!!

Sorry, Rita, I posted those links wrong! I forgot they were Yahoo groups. I edited the posting and checked to make sure it would go thru, so you should be able to get there this time. I can't remember now if you have to join Yahoo groups before you can look at them, but it is no big deal to join.

The Cordon Bleus are very passive little birds, except when you try to put more than one pair in a cage or flight together, then they will fight like dogs! I have never tried just two males, without any females, but think they would still be aggressive to each other. Cordon Bleus are so beautiful, and they preen each other--just sweet little things, and they have a pretty little song. I didn't make myself clear before, you wouldn't want just one male, as they really like company of their own species. If you want Cordon Bleus, I would get a pair--if you wind up with babies, you shouldn't have any trouble finding homes for them!
