Hey, this might be a strange question. But I have a male yellow star finch - and since I got him - he's got a really strange song... I can't describe it as more than...

Yeah I don't know how to put it into words - but that's the best I could do haha...

He's had this song since we got him, and it's ENTIRELY different from the normal male song that they do - he doesn't do the normal song at all... does anyone know why this could be? I just think it's really interesting, is it possible that he just "made it up"?



...and so everyone knows - that's him... he's called Peep.

Well I have a pair of star finches and to me the male has the stranges little song and it goes on and on and on.

He is so very bonded with the hen, and he is always singing to her and preening her. I keep hoping they will nest. Nothing yet!

Sara it sounds as though he may have been fostered out and raised by another type of finch. A few people I have spoken to have said that this type of thing can occur with fostering, that the young can take on the traits of the parents,such as learning the sounds they make

I have a gouldian male who must have been raised near canaries - he has the strangest song! Whenever he starts I stop and think "who IS that?". Then I remember that it's just Barry (as in Manilow), who sings his own slightly different tune.

yes i get that too with my budgies. when i bring one home they sing a completely different song to what is normal but once the listen to the others, they usually settle down with the normal song.

I recently got a star pair and the sound you are describing is what my female is doing. Are you sure your's is a male? My male sings a high pitched quite lovely song! The female I have makes this low picthed sounds or song and to me sounds like a large dog lapping up water...lol Is not pretty ya know is odd sounding. Your pic imo the star looks female. The male is much brighter red and more of it around his face. My female has a good amount of red but side by side i can see the difference between them albeit IS subtle!

I took pics of mine over the weekend because i was confused if my female was a female because of the sounds she makes. Well she is a female just a noisey one....anyway See my link and see if your female looks like mine in coloring. I bet we got similar star's from the sounds of it! cool lil birds though!!!
