So I am getting my birds today or tomorrow!!!!!

Tomorrow we are having company over, which we do most Saturdays.
So I am thinking about picking up the birds today, so they can settle before there is more movement and noise tomorrow.

Or I could pick them up tomorrow and put the cage in a bedroom for the day and move them back down in the evening.

I am driving myself crazy with worry on which is less stressful for the birds. There is no point in waiting a few more days, because ours is a busy house, and situations like this will happen.

Then I worry about what room to keep them in.
The living room is a good possible, but I don't have a cabinet to put them on where I could see them. I could move the cabinet from the family room in there, it will look out of place though.

The family room is my preferred spot, but I worry that a puff of smoke might come in the back door (from the bbq) and kill them, although placement makes that unlikely. And the lights are on in that room for a long time.

So then I think, leave them in the family room but move them each evening into the living room, where they can get the morning sun, then when I get up, move them back to the family room, but will all that moving be more stressfull than lights on for a long time?

Arrrrghhhhhhh....does anyone else drive themselves batty worrying over stuff?

Your finches are supposed to relieve stress, not cause it! Seriously, they are a lot more flexible than we know. Most of my birds are in a separate birdroom, and once the lights go off (with sundown), they are not usually bothered again till morning. But my community flight is in my extra bedroom, where the computer is, so often I am in there with the lights on very late at night. They all wake up, start eating, etc., and then once I'm finished, it's lights out and they go back to sleep. Not ideal, but we all have to compromise.

Personally, I would pick a place that works for both you and the birds, rather than moving the cage twice a day (that's more work than I care to do!). They will adjust to your routine.

I agree with Sally - try to find somewhere that you won't have to move them. They'll be fine.

This is the fun part - deciding on where to put them and setting everything up!

I never move my birds, tried it once and they got a bit stressed by the ordeal. Now they have their regular place right in front of the sitting room window so they can catch the sun all day and they are right next to my sofa ( I am often hit by either flying seed or drops of water). And their cage is opposite the TV which they love watching (especially the music channels)

My bird room and computer room are one a the same. I have an alarm clock that has two alarms set at 8am and 8pm. the birds day is set to those alarms.at 8 pm I cover the cages and all is quiet. At 8am I uncover the cages and the singing starts. I'm up on the computer till midnight but it doesn't seam to bother them.
