How Smart are Zebra Finches?

I'm wondering really how smart finches are?
Would say a zebra finch know how to stick his/her leg thru the bottom grate to grab a piece of small millet?

I have not personally witnessed any of my finches do that trick yet, BUT I so love Zebra Finches and I think they are mini Einstiens! Because they ARE so smart. So I believe they can do any thing they set their little minds to doing..

I don't know if a zebra finch would use their feet to grab some millet, never seen it. All my finches are very smart though. My Java's are the smartest, but they all figure out how to do the funniest things.

A zebra can easily do something like that. I know many of the birds we keep can easily tell Michele and me apart and some prefer one over the other. We do have a couple of finches in the walk in that will perch on or near Michele to get a little scratch on the head. Not very common behavior for finches.

I think they are smarter than we give them credit for.
My finches know me when I come into the aviary. My shaftails
will sit on a perch and watch me until I put down whatever it is that I have
for them to eat and they are always the first ones down to eat it.
My gouldians will not let me touch them, but I can come within inches of them while I talk to them. If someone is visiting my house and goes into my aviary, they all go crazy trying to hide.

That is the same with me and my finches. When they see me they dont fly away from me. i can come up to the cages to give them food and water and they will sit right by the dishes and wait. But everytime my room mates try to feed them they panic and start flying all over the place.
