Stunning bird, and I can't seem to find any information on them in the U.S. Paradise Earth (Bird Product) does not have them listed. Even more telling, Birds Express doesn't list them at all. Birds Express normally lists all the different species they have imported, even in the past, but the Eurasian Bullfinch is not listed.

I don't know of anyone in the US that breeds them. There is a member rayray that has them, but I believe he is in the UK?

Bull finches are unfortunately protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act along with European Siskins and Chaffinches. Bull finches are probably my favorite European finch and I use to see them a lot in the winter in Eastern Europe. It's the only time I have ever seen them and they are incredible looking with the bright orange and black plumage. Here is a link to the birds protected by the Bird Act.

Lt. Dan Thanks for that information! It would not have occurred to me that a finch native to Europe and Asia would be protected in the U.S. That certainly explains why it isn't available!

Yeah, it is strange that some European birds are on the list. I believe that some of them are the occasional migrant to North America hence the reason they made the list.

Thanks for the info that's to bad they are on the list. When I was growing up my father had a couple bird books that I would always look through. I think most of the authors where britttish. There was a ton of info and breeding tips on bull finches they always had my curiosity. I guess I see why I have never seen one in the US. There really is some beautiful birds on the list.
