Where to get 60W red bulbs for heat lamps

Post by finchandlovebird » Mon May 05, 2014 7:43 pm

Where does one find 60W red bulbs for heatlamps????? I was at WalMart today & could only find 25W red bulbs, so I got them.
Are 25W going to be ok to use in heat lamps for birds :?:

Those 25w colored bulbs are more for party effect rather than warmth,so they aren't going to put out enough heat. Feed stores often carry red heat lamps, but you have to watch the wattage, it is often much higher than what you want. And you have to use the heat reflectors with ceramic bases with those. If you can find a 60w bulb, I think that might work. I would check with Home Depot, Lowe's, and feed stores. I personally love the ceramic heat lamps sold for reptile use, because they put out heat without light. They are pricey, but they will last forever, since you don't use them all the time. In the line of reptile bulbs, pet shops may have a 60w red lamp for reptiles that would work.
