Nest building

Post by CommaHolly » Sun Jun 08, 2014 11:38 am

so I moved my babies to a larger 18x30 cage last night,,,,,,

and they seem to love it,,,I've got the center pretty much a straight shot so they can fly back and forth and they are having a ball,,,,,,,

but they refused to nest in the cleaned out nest last night,,,,,,,one of them spent the night in the hay ball,,,,,,,which worried me because he refused to let his companion IN the hayball,,,,

this morning, however, I got up, and they were both in the nest (the real nest), fixing it up,,,,,,,

but what I'm curious about is this,,,,

the last time they built their nest, they used a ton of paper towels and fluff,,,,,,,

this time, they have a ton of hay in there,,,

is it normal for them to build successive nests differently?????

Don't have experience with Zebra nesting but your cage set up looks great!

Mine use pretty much the same stuff, but that was after some trial and error on their part. Now they want what they want and get in a snit if they don't get it. Offer them some paper towels and fluff, but if they are happy with the hay and their nest with all the windows, I'd let them be. Maybe they just want a room with a view in their fancy new cage, or a fun nest that swings. It must be fun when one lands on it - living in a birdie tilt-a-whirl. They're cute sitting in it.

LOL, thanks guys,,,they are back in the proper nest now, but it was awfully cute for a day :D

they are now also using paper towel and fluff, so they obviously had a method to their madness :)
