Of COURSE it's discontinued!!

Post by sundancekid » Sat Sep 13, 2014 6:39 pm

Sorry, but I have to vent! I have had an idea in my head of exactly the kind of seed trough I want in my cage to reduce mess and waste. It was a cross between a tidy seed and a seed hopper... because the tidy seed doesn't catch hulls and the seed hopper I've seen doesn't fit my cage doors. So, then I found the image below while on another endless Google quest for this "unicorn". It is exactly what I had envisioned and the correct dimensions for my side doors!! But OF COURSE, it appears to have been discontinued  I can't even find it on Ebay, so the product must be dead as a doornail. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I've emailed the company (it's Italian) to see if there's any hope at all. Have you ever found something you thought didn't exist only to discover you can't have it??!! ARGGGHHH!!!

What can you do? Maybe another company will pick up on it if your lucky. Keep trying the italian company, maybe they have a few left in stock.

This happens to me ALL THE TIME with all kinds of stuff!! I find something I fall in love with, and they quit making the sucker. Doesn't matter what it is - perfume, a gadget, an item of clothing - if I like it, they'll quit making it, for sure.

Here is a link to ladygouldian. The seedhopper has a bottom for hulls and it clips onto the cage bars inside the cage. My finches love these and they're easy to clean too.

Thanks for the tip. I've already looked into those and they would work perfectly for me if they were just an inch wider (my side doors are 5 inches wide). I really want to put it on the outside to take up less flight space. I might just suck it up though. Maybe I could jerry-rig it somehow. I just wish I hadn't found that thing because I had come up with that idea in my head and have been determined to find it! I did find a European store that has some in stock, but they only ship to France, Belgium and Germany I think. Oh well.

Aw, that's a bummer!

I'm like KarenB. If I like it, it shall be discontinued for certain! (Which absolutely slays me, as I'm a very habitual person. I've eaten the exact same thing every day for 5+ years. I've used the same cosmetic and bath products for 10+ years. I don't like change! And I *definitely* don't like it when companies discontinue my stuff, so I feel your pain!

I'd contact the Euro website in question. Most will ship outside the advertised shipping area if you request it. It's usually just a bit more expensive for the shipping.

It's a VERY clever little feeder! I'd imagined something just like it. (I'm rather bummed to see it exists and is discontinued. It must have been a dud sales-wise if it was discontinued.)

The company contacted me this morning and said that the feeder is not discontinued because their bird cages actually come with it. She referred me to a replacement part company. I don't see it on their site, but I've sent them a note about it. Fingers crossed!!

You can hang the seed hopper INSIDE the cage if it doesn't fit the doors.

Let us know what happens. It would be interesting to find out whether or not you could order it!

What about this one?

http://www.thefinchconnections.com/econ ... bird-food/

It's 5.5 inches wide and holds a whopping 2 pounds of seed! They have a smaller version but I think it's only 4 inches wide.

I'm trying not to take up as much space inside the cage. I also like the idea of refilling seed and having access to the hull tray without opening the cage. I will do it if I have to though.

@thegatorgal
I have looked into those too. I think I would end up going with the smaller one and rigging it fit. It would only cost me $9 including shipping for the smaller one, which is a great deal.

I will keep you all posted. Thanks for all the suggestions! I go pick up my first societies (which are my first finches) on Friday and I'm very excited \:D/
