If so, how do you come up with names?

As far as my finches go, those that have names, the names picked them, not really the other way around.

Of course! Every single bird who comes into my care gets a name. I generally just try to find a name which suits them, but occasionally I'll think of a name I really like, and plan in advance the name of a bird before I get it.

Yes! All of my animals have names... though sometimes it takes me a while to settle on one that seems right for that particular critter. Right now I only have 4 Gouldians. Razzle and Indigo are one pair. Shrek and Fiona are the other. The last pair were named by the breeders niece, and I thought the names were cute so I kept them :D

I named several of my finches a pair of society finches Rainier and Grace for Grace Kelly in movie High Society. Three of my males LG's are Rue for kangaroo, Aussie and Dundee.
It's fun to name them especially if they live up to their names....

Of course they have names. The latest are Rowan and Orion, for my two Redbilled Firefinch boys. Lily and Yasmin, for my two pure white Society girls. Zazu and Zoe, for my two new Zebras. The rest would take too much space here. But yes, they all have their own names.

Always!
I wait for them to "tell" me their name.
I've tried to go in with a name in mind and it never works. They always have a name. Sometimes it's apparent right away; other times, it takes a while for them to tell me.

I usually name my birds with the word that first comes to mind when I look at them. It could be an actual name, or just a word/description. Messi was always a messy eater since I was handfeeding him. Spot was pecked in the head by the parents and had a little red dot on his skull for the longest time. My sun conure was Nara, which means "fire", because she was bright like a red/orange flame. Etc... Although now, they all get named Soupy or Stewy... Yum.

My cats all have names like "Whitey", "Blackie"; Creamie". See a pattern here? I'll need to come up a less Crayola approach for a naming convention. I have one cat named "Turd" - because she behaves like a tutle.
Bird names are harder...

Well I have so many to name, but I kind of give them nicknames, not particular names!

I was struggling with names for my 3 society girls. I've just decided this morning to go with Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. That way, I can refer to them collectively as the Powerpuff Girls
I used to love that cartoon when I was a kid. I need to have children so I have a valid reason to watch kid's movies and cartoons again as an adult! Hubby teases me so much.
Finches: Blossom and Bubbles

Parakeets: Frankie and Joey

Yep! So far, all of them have more old-fashioned names as you can see in my signature line.

My husband suggested that as we get new generations of birds, we should change the style of names. So I guess the second generation will be baby boomer names, followed by the names popular in the 80's like Jennifer, Lisa, Jason, etc and the following generation would be a bunch of Aidens, Caydens, Braydens.

I'm not convinced. :P

All of my birds are named (except for the Japanese quails because they reproduce so fast and I have to rehome the chicks too often to give them names). I typically select names from my favorite books or stories. For example, the gouldians are named after Lord of the Rings characters; the pheasants have greek mythology names; canaries have Egyptian mythology names; the javas are named after Javanese gods; and the others carry names from Avatar.

I have to make a list of all the names to keep track of them :)

I have a hard enough time to remember the specie names of the birds still on my shopping list, without giving names to my birds. I think that I would feel like a girl if I did name my birds. I am a bit irritated if someone writes on the forum. "My Missy bird has babies" Then I think, what kind of a bird is a Missy bird? Later on I think why didn't she write "My zebras has babies?" I go by, if it comes to me if I call it's name, then I will name it.
