Re: Red apple cider vinegar vs. white vinegar
Not sure but has the white vinegar been filtered and/or distilled??
When I make my vinegar it has a brown to red color depending on the cider I use

I LOVE cider vinegar! My family owns and operates a cider mill so we have cider readily available. Nothing better then good old cider vinegar without all the additives and all goodies filtered and boiled out of it.

Re: Red apple cider vinegar vs. white vinegar
Lucky you! Plain white vinegar is fine for cleaning/disinfecting, but when feeding it to your birds, whether in the water or added to their food, you should use apple cider vinegar, but not the plain old acv from the grocery store. I use Bragg's organic, unpasteurized unfiltered acv, it is wonderful! Many grocery stores are starting to carry it, but if you can'f find it there, you will find it at health food stores.debbie276 wrote: I LOVE cider vinegar! I was just going to echo Dolly, and say 'YOU MAKE YOUR OWN VINEGAR???
But shucks, it was already answered.
Our own Wild Bill, told me about the Apple Cider Vinegar ( the unfiltered, unpasturized all natural stuff). He recommended it for the bird's water, and also recommended it in water for us humans as well.
I have to say, that the smell puts me off a bit, but the birds don't seem to mind one little bit. Just have to remember to always give the bottle a really good shake 'cause it settles on the bottom.

I clean my aviary with vinegar (especially because there is lots of glass), but hadn't heard of feeding it to the birds. What is that for? Do I need to be putting vinegar in their water?

Re: Red apple cider vinegar vs. white vinegar
Be careful when adding apple cider vinegar to the water. If your water supply is naturally acidic, you probably wouldn't want to add even more acid to it. My water is quite alkaline, so the acv helps to 'neutralize' the pH of the water.

I read that ACV is good for deworming finches. What other uses do y'all have for ACV?

Re: Red apple cider vinegar vs. white vinegar
I would not count on vinegar de-worming your birds. Most things that vinegar might be good for requires the vinegar to be at such a high concentration that the birds will not drink the water.

Re: Red apple cider vinegar vs. white vinegar
our vet said acv is good for treating yeast, may not work completely on the tough cases but helps. You need to treat for worms, usually a 2 part treatment.
