Double Yolkers

Post by Matt » Thu Jul 17, 2008 8:18 am

Just out of curiosity, has anybody seen finch eggs with two yolks?
I have a pair of Javas sitting on eggs now. One of the eggs is around double the size of a normal Java egg. I candled it today and it is fertile. Is there a possibility of two chicks coming from one egg?

I've never heard of that happening Matt.
doesnt mean it couldn't happen though, you see it with chicken eggs quite often.
might be an interesting topic to google

I just read a story about conjoined Starlings. The theory is that they came from a double-yolked egg. They did not live long, and again the theory is that they would not survive, given the difficulty of flight, etc. The article said this may have happened before, but if the birds hatch out, they don't live long, so we never see them.
