paint

Post by dfcauley » Thu Jul 17, 2008 9:31 am

I want to do some trim painting in my aviary.
Is this at all possible to do a little at a time with the birds in there?

I hate the thought of catching them all up, but then again I hate the thought of doing them any harm.

I was thinking just a tiny bit a day...... and not too much. Would this work ? Probably not.....

Could you possible hang something like a old sheet on the inside to keep them on one end of aviary while you paint the other end and put a fan up against the outside of aviary pulling the paint smell away from birds, you can get some latex base paint that don't have much of a smell. but i really don't know how safe that would be,just a thought :?:

I think BCamp's idea of hanging a sheet sounds good to me. If you are doing just small areas at a time, and have a way to keep the area well-ventilated, it might work. And you will need a fast-drying paint, too. My biggest worry would be having the birds brush up against wet paint! Seems like I remember reading one time about adding vanilla or something like that to paint to cut down on the paint smell, though the paints today really don't have much of an odor, especially latex.

Well that was encouraging... at least all did not scream NO!
Yes I am going to sheet off a small area at a time. All I am painting is the trim around the windows. Yes.... I have windows all around my aviary. I know all thoughts on that, but mine are somewhat tinted and I have never had a bird to run into them. Except sometimes a little fledging has bumped one when they come out. No harm yet.... They all seem to know the boundaries.
I thought I would trim just one window a day. That way not too much of a smell.
It is about 14 feet long and 8 feet wide. Thanks for ideas.
