Will These Feeders Work?

Post by dunker817 » Thu May 21, 2015 8:23 pm

I am getting closer to starting my bird room and bought two feeders on line. They are bigger than I imagined. Would these work for finches or should I get some that are smaller? They are 13" diameter and 3" deep. One I was going to use for seed and the other for veggies and stuff. Eventually I will have 8 finches in the room. Thanks.

That should work fine. It would be good for having a big flock of finches. I'm planning on using dishes for the finches once my aviary is built.

Those are great. You could even drill holes in the flat part for hanging, if you so desired.

I personally like bigger dishes like that for soft food/veggies. As for the seed, you need not fill it all the way up, because the finches generally won't dig that deep for it and the hulls will cover the good stuff. I'd just put a shallow layer of seed in, which I would think would still be plenty per day. A good rule of thumb is a teaspoon per bird per day of dry seed.

Karen, thank you for the serving suggestion. I have been wondering about that. Now I have something to help guide me. Next I need to post a pic of my bird bath/water source. I don't know if that is good or not.
