male finch shares nest with female canary

Post by canary lady » Thu Jul 02, 2015 7:45 am

I have a female canary sitting on 4 eggs which hopefully will hatch soon. My male zebra finch likes to sleep in the nest with the female canary. Will he hurt the chicks once they are born? They are in an aviary with one female society finch and several other male and female canaries...all of whom get along fine so far.

I have no experience with canaries, but I wanted to welcome you to the forum! There's lots of good reading at www.finchinfo.com, where you will find many articles on finch keeping. If you put your general location in your profile, it makes it easier to answer locale-specific questions later on.

Welcome to the forum!
I want to start this by saying all birds are different so please keep an eye on them but it sounds like your male zebra just wants to sleep in a nest. I don't know if you have other nests available but I would not worry about him hurting the baby zebras, in fact he will probably help feed the young canaries.
