Is there a site for lost birds?

Post by carcoozie » Sat Aug 22, 2015 3:08 pm

Hello all - sorry if this is in the wrong place. I live in North Atlanta and a neighbor just found and caught this bird. Anyone have any ideas of where the owners might be looking for him - like a lost/found bird website? I just know they can get pretty far.

My sister has the larger birds, african gray and mccaw's. They have them chipped like you would a dog. It might be worth bringing the bird to a vet and see if it's chipped.
good luck finding the owner, they must be heart-broken

You could also put a post on someting like kijiji (without a picture) , in the pet bird listings, that a bird was found, parrot of some sort, and anybody who responds, will have to identify bird to claim it.

Also, check with pet shelters, if the owner might have reported it missing to them, also local vet offices. Check the paper for lost pets.

Thanks all! We have put ads everywhere we can think of - hopefully the owners see it. He can't have been out long - he came to her husband easily when he held out apple slices. She is going to take him to the vet on Monday. Otherwise, she has a friend who raises parrots who will take him.

Thanks for all the advice.

I would imagine the owners are looking for this one, those birds are not cheap so less likely to have just been turned out. Are there are bird clubs or bird specialty pet shops in Atlanta? Those are often good places for networking.

Thank you all!

And a shout out to PetCo - she went in and told them what had happened and they lent her a cage for 30 days! PetSmart not so helpful- said couldn't help and suggested she get at 7x7 nest box to put him in cause "it's just a bird"

Kudos to that Petco, and shame on that Petsmart for saying 'it's just a bird'.

Smurf is right.. It's an Indian Ring Neck Parakeet, male.
..the females are very similar in coloration but do not have the distinct ring around their neck that is visible in your photo :D
