When to Bring in a New Buddy after a Loss

A little backstory, I have two zebras and two societies in one flight. One of my societies passed away on Monday. She seemed to be the dominant of the group and would even chase my male zeb around when he got too fussy. Now my poor little Turkey (the other society) is in mourning. She cries all hours of the day and even night. I heard her at 3:00 last night when everything was dark and quiet just crying away. The zebras won't sleep with her because they are very bonded (they've had chicks in the past). But they will occasionally perch with her in the daytime. She is just so incredibly lonely! She used to be very shy and would barely be vocal.

Also, not sure if this is part of the grieving process, but she hasn't bathed yet. They used to all jump in together when I put in a clean bath, but she hasn't bathed :(

I don't know how long I should let her grieve? My male zebra is starting to get a little pushy, just a little, and that makes me fearful, too. I just hate seeing Turkey so incredibly sad :(

There's no real reason not to get another society immediately.

I agree with the others, no reason to wait. You'll still need to quarantine, so that means even more time till Turkey can have a new buddy.

Totally agree - actually, get three Societies and make it a six pack!
