Java finch noise question

Post by littlezebra » Fri Apr 28, 2017 6:04 am

Hi guys, wanted to ask if someone had something similar to this, so i have a male and female java, they are about 6 m/o, got them like few weeks ago, anyway the female finch sometimes make a crying/whinning sound like a dog woukd ask for something, but she only does in when inside the nest, so does anyone had something similar or maybe someone has an anwser to what she want's or why she does this? :)

I am assuming, that she does want SOMETHING lol.
Sorry, just being silly, I couldn't help myself.

Are you sure that there are no begging infants in the nest?

If there are no babies, than I would think it's part of their mating ritual, and she either wants to breed, or she wants hubby to bring her breakfast in bed.

Finches all make whining/buzzing sounds in the nest, not sure why, but I've seen it from societies, spices, javas, zebras, and even cutthroats.

If your female Java does anything but chirp, "she" could be a "he".

Males are almost always the only ones that sing, but juvenile males take some time to develop a proper song. If the female is making any noises other than squeaking/whining, chirping, and growling (which can sound a bit like part of a song), "she" is most likely male.

Maybe these pictures could help, i was thinking the white one is a male couse of its bigger beak and bigger eye rings.

The environment in which these birds are kept looks very dark and dreary. Can't even see their beaks to compare.

It's immediately by a window so I'm going to infer it's evening and not the normal daytime conditions.

To me the black one looks more male, but also within the range of a female.

The white looks definitely female.
