Ive got a pair of zebra finch that have laid 1 egg but they sleep and hang about a different nest. Do they abandon eggs?

Sometimes they will abandon eggs.

How long since this lone egg was laid?

Some won't begin to sit tight untill the whole clutch is laid, some not untill three eggs have been laid, and some will begin incubating from the first egg.

Danny91 I think they do. My hen thinks the egg is an object from outer space. She lays it, then a few hours later she sees it. The she looks like this and she is like "EEEK! What is that thing in my nest!" Then she rolls it to the edge of the nest and drops it off the edge.

Its been 3 days since it was laid. She is protective over the nest if another finch goes near but she sleeps in a diffetent nest.

Honestly I would leave them alone.
She might decide to lay a few more eggs and then start sitting.

I agree with Elana, she might just laying more eggs before sitting on it,some zebra finches doesn't sit on the egg til at least 5 inside. So just be patience
