Fertile or not fertile eggs

Post by Danny91 » Fri Jun 16, 2017 2:49 pm

Hi

Could any body tell me if these zebra finch eggs are fertile or not. The hen has been sitting on them for 14 days now.

Cheers.

Without candling them it's hard to say.

When you say sitting on them, do you mean going in and out of the nest, or actually sitting tight 24/7 someone always in the nest day and night?

I would give them another 10 days.
If nothing hatches by then, I would assume they're duds.

One or the other is sitting on them 24/7. They look like they are flaking in places if you look closely so maybe thats a sign of chicks.

Hope they are pipping, which does mean chicks :-BD

If you take a small flashlight and hold it near, almost against the eggs, you should be able to tell. If they are fertile, the egg will look full of something dark, while if they are infertile, they will just have a dried-up yolk on one side of the egg and the rest just air.

If you look closely you can see two of the eggs pipping. Congrats on the hatchlings! =D>
