Housing Fire Finches and Red Cheeked Cordon Bleus
Can I house two male fire finches with two male red cheeked cordon bleus together?
If they need separate cages, can someone enlighten me as to an appropriate size cage for each, including info on bar spacing?
Thanks!!

To clarify in case it matters, I'm asking about a red-billed firefinch.

We have had Red-billed Fire finches together with Blue-capped Cordon Bleus and they got along fine.

hfinney
I have housed 2 male African Fire brothers without issue.
I would not house 2 Red Cheek Cordon males together. When they hit breeding age, they will fight.

hfinney As long as there are no hens around, the 4 males should get along OK, though I would keep an eye on them and have an extra cage ready just in case. The smallest size I would recommend for 2 finches is 30x18x18.

2 fire finch cocks should be ok together and 2 cordon bleus should be ok,
However I very strongly wouldn't advise in keeping cordon bleus with fire finches,
In the category of blue and purple waxbills it's well documented that these birds generally don't get on with any red series of waxbill or other Estrildid finch IE strawberry finches and fire finches etc,
the colours of the blue birds and the red birds are know to clash and especially more so during the breeding season, these birds can and will kill one another if allowed,
Yes I know that there have been cases of where these birds have been kept together presumably during non breeding times but for safety sake I'd definitely not chance it
Be lucky

Great advice, everyone. Wow you guys are awesome! Thank you so much!
Will two male Cordon Bleus fight even if there is no hen around? If so, is it ok to keep one male by himself, perhaps with societies in the cage?

Two cock cordon bleus should be ok together, you can also keep single birds with bengalese / society finches, hfinney wrote: Great advice, everyone. Wow you guys are awesome! Thank you so much!

Incidentally I've very recently had two cocks together for the last couple of months or so with no problems whatsoever
Have a look at the pic of me birdroom and you'll see two cock blue caps together
