Hello! I have three societies that have just hatched two chicks (with two more eggs to go!). I'm in the process of updating my bird room, including moving everybody to new cages. Is it ill-advised to move the societies and their nest to a new cage right now? I can wait, but if they aren't going to mind the transfer, I might go ahead.

If now isn't a good time, when do you suggest? After all babies are hatched? After the babies fledge?

hfinney I personally would wait until the chicks have hatched I have moved my society’s before but this is because I had 2 very good committed parents but I’m unsure it depends on ur instinct

Remember those chicks are tiny and need warmth all the time. If the parents get spooked and take a while to feel safe to go back into the nest, the chicks will get cold and so will the remaining eggs.

I'd wait at least until the chicks have at least some pin feathers and are LOUD. And I would not switch nests on them.

Some societies have no issues with it at all and will jump back in and get back to business. Some won't.

As Fraser mentioned, you have to gauge how strong the instincts your societies have.

Personally, I would wait till the chicks are weaned.
You just don't know how the parents will react to being moved to another cage.
