Showing Society Finches

Post by Icearstorm » Sat Feb 17, 2018 3:55 pm

I'm interested in showing up to three of my society finches in Florida or southern Georgia, but am unsure how to do so. I looked at the NFSS website, but didn't see any shows scheduled for 2018. Do I have to be a member to access the information?

As far as the show standards go, does anyone have photos of quality self societies? I found a few photos of champion birds, but they weren't large enough to properly see.

Do any of my birds have a chance? They have a mix of European and American self traits, which could be a problem. Here are the three I'm considering:

They don't look as good without bright lighting. If I show them, would I be allowed to attach a thin strip of LED lights on the roof of the show cage, or would that be considered cheating?

I'm not sure about the other things, but your birds look show-worthy to me.

The show process is probably different here in the states, but I imagine the standards are similar. I like Coco's cheek markings; even if that doesn't fit the standard, he's still a lovely looking bird.

I imagine I'll have some more of my pair's babies available in 6-8 months. I'm not too far from you, so that could be a possibility.

Icearstorm, That would be great, if I don't have any by then! I would like to get a couple of nice males. From what I have read, they are active, interesting and get along well together. Did you go to the Jacksonville bird fair?

Icearstorm, Just saw your post about the bird fair. Do you know if Ceasars was the vendor with the Javas and the colors.

Two males should get along well. My males squabble a bit when they're breeding, but I imagine that's because they see each other as rivals, rather than mates.

I don't know, but if I remember correctly, this was the business card:

Sure, if I've got them available. This year's going to be a bit crazy, so I'll have to see how the bird-breeding goes.

Ok. You've seen my male society Oreo, right? I want a bride for him. Let's pm each other.
