Average price?

Post by FinchLover&Breeder » Tue Mar 27, 2018 11:58 am

Hey guys it's me Nick again. I was recently looking around online and found what I believe to be a good deal. Someone is selling a zebra finch and gouldian finch for 50 obo. Is this a good deal? What is the average price for a gouldian? How hard are they to care for? Really need your help with this.

Gouldians usually start at $50 at the bird fairs and go up from there depending on color. It would depend on how old the bird is and in what condition. I never had any Gouldians, so don't know how hard they are to keep.

That's a good price if both of the birds are healthy.

Gouldians aren't too difficult to care for; they have about the same requirements as zebra finches and society finches. However, they have a compressed moult that is more stressful, and thus require even more nutrition than other birds during this time. Some gouldians are more prone to baldness and require more iodine, though birds from a good bloodline shouldn't have as many issues. They are also more likely to get fat in a small cage, so an austerity diet without egg or fatty seeds is recommended for a few weeks per year, perhaps during winter.

Ok. Thanks. I messaged the seller about them. Hopefully I can expand my finches collection to 3 different kinds. Do they get along well with other finches?

They should tolerate other birds. My gouldians hiss at anyone that gets too close, but otherwise they're pretty passive.

Neither of them look fluffed up or ill, so that's good. Judging from the bright colors and pale beak, the gouldian is male.

$50 for them is a great price; the cage alone would cost at least that much. I would not recommend offering them any less money than is listed, since it could come across as insulting.

Gouldians here cost $85 and Zebs cost $12 so sounds like a pretty good deal. Depends on bird pricing and demand in your area tho.
