New Cage Recommendations

Post by delray » Fri Apr 06, 2018 11:20 am

ISO a new cage for my 2 society finches. I currently have a 30/18/18 inch cage but I would like to upgrade the height to 36 inches. I would also like to have a decorative looking top because it will be in my living room. Any suggestions? Thanks!

This Prevue Hendrix flight cage is my absolute favorite. It is fairly large, though, so you need the space for it. You can decorate both inside and on the top with fake plants and vines, making it quite pretty. You can also ziptie a light on the top.

With even more space, this double flight gives great flying room, though it is pretty big for just two Societies--but they would love that space.

With less space, I have the ones that are half of the double flight, which would work for your two birds.

With fake plants and ivies, you can dress up a cage to fit in better in your living room.

Don't know if you've got your new cage yet, but this is my favorite cage for finches and budgies:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00176F5L0/?c ... _lig_dp_it

I get them when they go on sale for around $100. I have a pair in the garage right now waiting for me to FINISH FREAKING PAINTING so I can stick them together and make a nice big new home for my parakeets in a double wide.

The larger size on the same page is 36" long as opposed to 30", but when I stick 2 of the 30" variety together my birds have 5' total of flight space. Which is enough for me. If you only want a single-wide you might consider the larger version. I prefer a black cage but I think both of those are now available in white, if not through that amazon link, somewhere else. I think they started making a white version last year (but I prefer black).

If/when I get more finches (I'm down to one at the moment, he needs a friend, but more may wait as I am once again contemplating a move) I will get two more for the finches. Currently he is in this Prevue cage:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EQ28VZ4/?c ... _lig_dp_it

36" long and about 20x20 on the other dimensions. Plenty of room for up to 6 societies but probably only one pair of zebras (due to them not getting along that well with just 2 pairs).

Hang some plants over them, something that hangs down or is ferny. That'll disguise the lack of a decorative top.

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.
