Grey singer and a canary ok together?

Post by hfinney » Wed Apr 18, 2018 8:59 pm

If I place my male grey singer together with my female canary, will they try to breed? I don’t want them to, obviously! I feel like I’ve read somewhere that they are related and might try to breed, but now I can’t find where I read that so I wonder if I’m remembering incorrectly

They will breed, it's unlikely they would fight, canary hens don't usually lay without a nest or a suitably large food cup so you could cohabitate them and not have babies if you wanted.

Ok. To clarify, are you saying they won't breed if I don't put a nest or nest-like cavity for laying eggs?

Thank you for your help, Dylan.

These species can breed and produce offspring. But like all finches, they won't raise babies without a place to lay eggs. They might still mate. I have canaries, they mate, but so far no eggs without a nest.
