Numbering & lettering leg bands

Post by canary3000 » Mon May 07, 2018 10:23 pm

Ive got three breeding pairs with leg bands. But what do I put on the chicks leg band as far as numbers/letters. I know the color of the band generally coincides with the specific year.
Thank you!

canary3000 you can use the colour as you have said or just to use for gender purposes however the numbers are usually for the year they are born like 20/16 or the month it was born 28/09 then the lettering could be your initials for example mine would be HF

Bands are available as either closed [metal] or open [plastic]; with colors to make the year easily identifiable.
They can be plain or stamped with the year, your initials and the bird's unique number. Eg. 18 XX 001
There is no point in labeling the hatch date by months.

Split plastic bands can also be used in various colors to designate family trees. One band on each leg if you also use closed bands. A quick visual aid to avoid incest in future breeding.

A supplier I use is: http://www.lmbirdlegbands.com/catalog.html
Call them. A very helpful source.
