I am so sick of this bird!

Post by ann » Thu Jun 14, 2018 12:32 pm

A pin tailed whydah has taken over my back yard. This nasty little thing chases away every bird that comes in. I used to have two empty bird feeders every night, but now I refill only every second day. I want him gone! Does anyone know of any non-lethal ways to get this bird out of here?

Catch it and keep it as a pet.

I had one for a time and yes, they can be extremely aggressive. Shame, as they are so pretty.

Look into a sparrow trap possibly, there are tutorials to make them online. They are living loose, but they're escaped from the pet trade.

As this species has escaped from pet trade, you could inform a local bird organisation if they are interested in having this bird catched. Over here birds that have escaped and settled successfully aren't allowed as pets any more - don't know how the laws are where you live. Trapping this bird would make sense, anyway.
